BARTOSZ KALI - urban, environmental, documental, fine art photography
Bartosz Kali’s main focus is urban photography and presenting ideas, imagination, and the potential of generations which reflect in city scapes and landscapes. Quite faithful to black and white imaging and printing, his works are strictly documental in nature. All B&W photographs on this site can be printed using Piezography printing system which produces clean and archival prints (please visit the Archival B&W Prints page for more details)
‘ In my work I try to portray urban areas as places where past and present collide and coexist. The truth about our culture and our potential as a generation is often manifested within our city spaces. Our man-made surroundings are solid testaments to our history and the history of our effort to satisfy the needs of the public, as well as the empowered individuals.
I tend to look for urban places with stories of generations and of some authentic individualism in a wider context. Often I find myself questioning certain planning solutions or commenting on the social impact of buildings and city spaces. I think it is important to study and understand the influence and the responsibility of our constructions.
I try to approach photography as a researcher and anthropologists, even though I often emphasise the presence of abstract forms within cityscapes to underline the human ability and the need for abstract thinking. I prefer to work with black and white because I feel that monochrome is closer to our consciousness and abstraction. Yet there are some photographs which I definitely prefer to view in colour. ‘
